Health Insurers to Mail Out 1099-HC Forms

By January 31, 2011, Massachusetts Health Insurance carriers will mail 1099-HC forms to Massachusetts resident fully insured and self-insured subscribers who were in Minimum Creditable Coverage (MCC) plans, including those who obtain coverage through their New Hampshire or Maine employer. Information on the 1099-HC form indicates the MCC coverage subscribers had in 2010, and will allow them and their adult dependents (spouses, domestic partners and children over 18) to complete MA Schedule HC when filing their Massachusetts income tax return.
To assist your employees, the carriers have created 1099-HC Info Centers on their websites.
The Info Center's explain the coverage reporting requirement, includes Q&A's on the 1099-HC form and samples of the various cover letters and 1099-HC forms being mailed to MCC-compliant subscribers in January.
Beginning February 1, 2011, some carrier's will include a link to a self-service print tool. This enables your employees to securely print their most recent 1099-HC. Please note that employers have access to print an employee’s most recent 1099-HC form.
We encourage you to visit the online 1099-HC Info Center for details.
